FORT SILL, OKLAHOMA – Radiance Technologies, Inc. (Radiance) completed a VIP media day with UAV and static engagements with the 10kw High Energy Laser Mobile Test Truck (HELMTT) on Thursday, April 21st. The VIP Day at Fort Sill was a huge success and continuation of effective, lethal engagements of UAVs and various static targets.
“U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) already had a high level of confidence in the Radiance team’s ability to operate, troubleshoot, and fix the HELMTT system but the past several months solidified it,” said the Assistant Vice President, Advanced Systems and HELMTT Senior Technical Manager at Radiance.
This was the first time that Fort Sill has hosted directed energy weapon experimentation and testing. Its purpose was to confirm that the equipment can be used effectively by the Army in 2025 and to demonstrate integration and lethality. This testing has continued over the past two weeks at the installation.
“Radiance employees performed flawlessly under pressure operating the systems to perfection with a vast number personnel observing, including multiple GOs and SESs over their shoulder.”
HELMTT is currently used for providing risk reduction and data collection for future demonstrators and weapon systems. This particular tactical vehicle contains a solid state laser system, agile beam control system, and supporting subsystems. The goal is to have a 50kw laser on the vehicle in early 2018.
Radiance is under contract with USASMDC/ARSTRAT, who is the recognized leader for High Energy Laser work for the Army. HELMTT is the Army’s first mobile high energy solid-state laser platform. Radiance and its team members are performing integration of the HELMTT in Huntsville.
