Mid-level Materials Engineer [HR7056]


Location: Hattiesburg, MS

Type: Full-Time

Position Description:

Serve as a research scientist investigating new polymeric composite materials as part of a joint research team focused on enhancing, and tailoring polymeric composite materials, structures and formulations  in support of high temperature polymer composites and lightweight materials for space and missile defense technology applications.  Serves as member of a team working at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) on the development and application of High Temperature Polymer Composites (HTPC).  Technical efforts will include preparation of materials, testing for physical and thermal properties, evaluating test results, and reporting findings.

Responsibilities will include oversight and coordination of activities with other scientists, engineers and technicians assigned to support the research.  Major work functions will complement the USM efforts including research, fabrication, experiments, test, demonstration, and translation of customer requirements into program solutions

As a Radiance scientist working in Hattiesburg, MS, the incumbent will work with other scientists, engineers and technicians to perform subcontract tasks as the USM Principle Investigator may require.  Support other space and missile defense materials related product development and tests at Radiance, other contractor and /or government sites as may be required.  


Basic Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Materials, Polymeric Composites or related technical disciplines  (Required).
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance (Required).
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in materials research, development & testing (Required).
Qualifications:
  • Prefer knowledge/experience in development, test, and assessment of polymer composite formulations that have extreme temperaturature ranges; added strength for load bearing applications; environmentally friendly (non-toxic and low embodied energy); and  light weight  in comparison to traditional metals;
  • Prefer advanced knowledge of materials and metallurgical scientific and engineering disciplines and recent laboratory  research and development with high temperature polymer composite materials.
  • Able to work well with a team of materials/polymer composite subject matter experts; able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work on a wide range of complex  tasks where prior materials knowledge, experience and judgment are required in resolving problems and making far reaching technical programmatic recommendations. 
  • Excellent written/oral communications skills along with the ability to work with management, scientists, engineers at top Governement, Academia, and Industry level.
